Thomas Tuchel has insisted that, unlike his predecessor Frank Lampard, he will not pick up the phones to convince potential transfer targets to join Chelsea
It is quite well-known that Lampard helped secure last summer’s deals for Ben Chilwell, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech, and even Thiago Silva.
It had to be done with a help of a translator since the centre-back did not really speak English at that point. But Silva said he was “over the moon” after that conversation.
Silva is certainly not the only one who got a phone call from Lampard. Chilwell, Ziyech, Werner, and Havertz have also opened up about Lampard’s role in their decisions to join the club.
Considering these players’ admissions, it is safe to say that the method is quite effective.
Tuchel, however, has confirmed that he will not follow the same approach.
